Review of Laura Mercier Daily Face Shield with Adaptogens SPF 40+

OVERALL RATING:
  • EXCELLENT
  • VERY GOOD
  • FAIR
  • NOT GOOD

PRODUCT PROS:

    • Lightweight feel
    • Scentless (no irritating fragrance)
    • Oil-free
    • Quickly and easily absorbs into skin
    • A very natural look; does not look like I am wearing make-up or sunscreen
    • Does not irritate my sensitive skin
    • Relatively safe ingredients list with no parabens, no apparently comedogenic or acne causing ingredients
    • Great UVB protection with SPF40
    • "I did not experience any allergic reaction"
    • Dermatologist tested

PRODUCT CONS:

    • Hard to apply since it's sort of runny and liquidy
    • Wish it had some tint in it to help cover skin imperfections because it is a whitish liquid
    • Relatively expensive $45 for 1 ounce of product!

MORE THOUGHTS:
I bought this because I have very sensitive skin and want to protect my skin from the sun without causing it to breakout into acne. Sun exposure causes wrinkles and at my age (26), I want to prevent that, so I decided to buy this. It's very expensive, but some things are worth it for the skin.

I checked out the full list of ingredients, and none of them seem to be comedogenic (clogging pores) or causing acne. You can check out the full list of ingredients at the bottom of the page. This product was also made in Japan, and I'm a little biased (in a good way) toward products made in Japan because of the generally excellent quality.

This product also has something special called "adaptogens" which help protect the skin from extreme heat or cold. I live in a very humid place, but mainly this wasn't a huge factor in me being convinced to buy it. The most convincing aspects were (1) It has a high SPF of 40 and (2) It has a very safe-sounding ingredients list.

After cleansing my face, the box indicates to apply the product after moisturizing, but I generally have sort of oily skin anyway, so I applied it directly to my face. You only have to squeeze gently because a lot of product can come out and it's very liquid-y and runny. It's a white color but absorbed fully into my skin, pretty quickly.

Throughout the day, it doesn't do an *awesome* job of controlling oil, but does help reduce the shine somewhat. My sensitive skin also didn't turn red, irritated or flaky after using this, which I was happy about. I will need to use it for another week or so to determine how it improves the tone of my face and whether it will cause any acne. So far, I am happy with it.
